The long-awaited Flyers Cup is here for the eight teams compiling the AAA division. The seedings and match-ups for the quaterfinal round were as follows: No. 1 seed Malvern Prep vs. No. 8 Salesianum, No. 2 La Salle vs. No. 7 Father Judge, No. 3. Holy Ghost Prep vs. No. 6 Cardinal O’Hara and No. 4 St. Joseph’s Prep vs. No. 5 Roman Catholic. All top seeded APAC teams advanced, with the highlight game being Malvern Prep vs. Salesianum.
Holy Ghost Prep will not participate in the upcoming Atlantic Prep Athletic Conference Founders Cup playoffs. APAC Commissioner Jim Britt released a statement Friday evening.
A decade and more ago, Van Stefanou skated for St. Joseph’s Prep. For five seasons now, he’s been one of the Hawks’ assistant coaches. In a sense, he has returned home.
HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP— When the time came to step up, La Salle met the challenge. Matt Maddalo and Dan Whitock scored goals 31 seconds apart early in the third period and the Explorers held off St. Joseph’s Prep 3-2 Friday night in an Atlantic Prep Athletic Conference matchup at the Skatium.
The Atlantic Prep Athletic Conference (APAC), founded in 2017, establishes the first pure scholastic ice hockey conference in the Philadelphia area. The APAC builds on an already strong athletic and academic community of schools to create a scholastic hockey model where players can benefit from long established traditions, rivalries and competition. The founding members of the APAC are La Salle College High School (Wyndmoor, PA), Holy Ghost Prep (Bensalem, PA), Malvern Prep (Malvern, PA), and St. Joseph’s Prep (Philadelphia, PA).
